Though it’s situated just an hour north of Phuket’s international airport, the beachside town of Khao Lak couldn’t seem any further away from the throngs of tourists that Phuket has become known for. Which is why Khao Lak’s nearly deserted beach is the ideal backdrop for the JW Marriott Khao Lak Resort and Spa, which has been wowing relaxation-seeking holiday-makers since it opened in 2010.
What differentiates Khao Lak from neighbouring tourist destinations like Phuket is its up-scale, secluded coastal resorts, quiet, un-crowded beaches, family-friendly nighttime environment and provincial ordinances prohibiting structures taller than the height of a coconut palm tree. These factors all keep Khao Lak down to earth. It’s the ideal location for couples looking for a relaxing vacation and also fantastic for families, especially with younger children.
From the JW Marriott’s Thai-inspired architecture and lush vegetation and lily ponds to its record-setting swimming pool (it’s the longest in Southeast Asia!), the resort truly deserves its five-star status.
Guest rooms at the JW Marriott Khao Lak feature murals of local art and other touches of Thai decor that let the character and charm of the destination shine.
Every room at the resort boasts an outdoor balcony or terrace that looks over the deep-blue-tiled pool, and some rooms even offer private pool access for those inclined to spend more time in the water than out.
Swimmers can even look out for the resort’s floating pool bar, which comes past via canoe and offers refreshments like beer and soda.
All the room options are spacious and complete with all the amenities you would expect of a five-star resort. All rooms include 40″ LCD TVs with cable channels and lots of movies available, an evening turn-down service (always a nice touch), as well as free Wi-Fi internet so you can keep in touch with friends back home.
JW Marriott delivers dining options in spades with eight on-site dining and lounge venues to satisfy every taste. Options include the lagoon side Thai Restaurant Ta Krai, Sakura – a Modern Japanese restaurant with a sushi bar and live teppanyaki station, Olive – a Mediterranean restaurant, and the Waterfront, serving local, regional and international cuisine beside the Andaman sea.
With an all-inclusive offer your dining needs are sorted from sunrise to sundown with daily buffet breakfast, lunches and three-course dinners.
Each and every morning of your stay, you will enjoy a full buffet breakfast. It’s complete with every type of Western and Asian food imaginable, from the egg station, where you can select poached, scrambled, “sunny side up” … to the dim sum and even soup stations.
In the afternoon, settle in to paradise with mouth-watering daily lunches at the scenic Waterfront Restaurant, where you can enjoy a choice of authentic Thai or international cuisine like Pad Thai Goong, Satay Gai, Moo and Nua skewers, the signature Marriott Burger, pizza and more gourmet delights.
Come evening, indulge in a copious selection of entrees, mains and desserts with dinner at any onsite restaurant. We recommend trying authentic Thai Massaman Gai Chicken at Ta Krai, Mediterranean Garlic Prawns and Tiramisu at Olive, Curry Udon Noodles and Gyoza at Sakura, Khao Lak Seafood Chowder and Norwegian Salmon Steak at the Waterfront Restaurant and whole lot more!
And when the sun sets, enjoy cocktails by the stunning lagoon pool (nothing says “paradise” like a pina colada).
The Infinity Pool Bar was our favourite spot, it also serves appetizers in case you get peckish at 6pm. For a more classy affair, make sure to enjoy a few martinis at the Czar Lobby Bar.
Nestled by the beachfront, is the magnificent Quan Spa which offers a balanced blend of warm Thai hospitality and five-star Marriott service.
Boasting 10 suites with saunas, five with steam facilities and six outdoor Thai salas, the Quan Spa is formidably comprehensive. In contemplating the impressive spa menu, one can choose to bliss out on number of treatments ranging from organic facials to aromatherapy massages.
For finishing touches, all treatments end amid the calming surrounds of the ’Zen Garden’, a large and airy inner courtyard featuring a serene rectangular pond with lily pads and billowing fabric. Here, guests can enjoy a soul-warming tea and delicious snack before heading back to lounging by Southeast Asia’s largest pool.
The JW Marriott Khao Lak’s beachside location continues to allow the resort to shine. The turquoise waters of the Andaman Sea lap gently onto fine, white sands here, and the beach typically hosts more palm trees than people.
Activities at the resort include kayaking, diving, squash, tennis and volleyball, and bike rentals allow guests to explore nearby national parks and waterfalls.
Parents can also enjoy blissful relaxation by the pool or beachside knowing that their children are finding endless entertainment at the complimentary Kids Club!
