Hong Kong Foodie Tasting Tour

Hong Kong

Buzzing Hong Kong is a city where the world’s top restaurants, plush hotels and luxe shopping sit alongside hole-in-the-wall dumpling vendors, street food stalls and chaotic markets selling everything you could ever imagine.

Hong Kong

With so many restaurants, markets and hidden speakeasies offering everything from tofu pudding to fine Chinese dim sums, Hong Kong is the ultimate destination for food lovers. Take this whirl around the city’s best restaurants and bars – now the only thing you have to think about is what to order when you get there.

1: Kung Wo Beancurd Factory

Visit this charming hall-in-the-wall restaurant to sink your teeth – and spoon – into a tofu pudding, Hong Kong’s most loved dessert. It’s easy to see why locals and tourists alike flock to Kung Wo Beancurd Factory: considered an institution here, this old-style restaurant opened its doors in the 1960s and its delicious tofu puffs, deep fried tofu and homemade sugar-free soy milk have made it famous all over the city.

Our pick? Once you’ve tried the tofu pudding, order up a portion of fried bean curd – a must-try.

2: Yuen Fong Dumplings

Sham Shui Po, one of Hong Kong’s oldest districts, is quickly becoming the city’s ultimate foodie destination, brimming with quirky restaurants, street markets and scrumptious food stalls. It’s here you can sample some of the finest dumplings in the city, at the Michelin-recommended Yuen Fong Dumplings.

The restaurant’s specialty: super-crispy and tasty pork and leek filled Guotie, or potstickers. These beloved pockets of goodness are some of the tastiest dumplings you will ever try, but other traditional dishes, including congee and noodles, are all on the menu at this iconic restaurant.

3: Hop Yik Tai

It’s a fact: it’s always the most unassuming restaurants and eateries that serve up the best food. Hop Yik Tai proves it. Located in up-and-coming Sham Shui Po, this traditional, Michelin-suggested Hong Kong eatery serves simple fare in a relaxed atmosphere, where locals and tourists rub elbows at shared plastic tables as they dig into sizzling noodle dishes and steamed rice noodle rolls filled with shrimp, vegetables and other ingredients.

4: Madame Fù

Ready to experience refined, contemporary Chinese cuisine in a beautiful colonial building that will spark Instagram envy? Then Madame Fù is the place for you. Covering the entire third floor of the old police headquarters in the Tai Kwun heritage compound, this elegant eatery – dubbed ‘Hong Kong’s most Instagrammable restaurant’ – offers a unique, artsy dining space complete with plush velvet seats and dark wooden tables.

Select one of the six exquisitely designed dining rooms and experience the restaurant’s signature dishes, including traditional Chinese dim sum, fresh seafood and Madame Fù’s unmissable Beijing Duck.

5: Dragonfly

A busy day filled with gourmet cuisine should always end with a cocktail, preferably prepared by professional mixologists in an ultra-cool bar. Inspired by the Art Nouveau styles of the late 19th and early 20th century, the stylish Dragonfly is the latest cocktail bar concept from Ashley Sutton, the Aussie mastermind behind some of Asia’s most famous bar designs including the magical The Iron Fairies bars.

Expect nothing but extravagance and a pinch of fantasy, with more than 500 cast iron dragonflies that dot the bar, floors tables and walls in this cooler-than-cool cocktail bar. Unexpected drinks are the main course here, with each cocktail on the list crafted by the talented in-house mixologists: choose a Yum Cha with Mr Tang if you like gin, sake and green apple, or a Salad Imposter, with Parmesan-infused Gin Mare, basil, fresh plum tomato and a mozzarella ball if you skipped lunch and feel like a healthy meal in cocktail form.
