After breakfast, explore Chennai’s architectural and cultural heritage. Visit the Government Museum and Art Gallery to view its art and bronze collections, followed by the vibrant 16th-century Kapaleeshwarar Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva.
Pause for lunch at a local eatery before continuing to Fort Saint George and the Basilica of San Thome. This cathedral, originally built by Portuguese explorers in the 16th century and later rebuilt by the British in 1896, is said to house the remains of Saint Thomas the Apostle.
Return to the hotel to freshen up before joining your group for a welcome dinner this evening.
Leave the city of Chennai behind and journey to Mahabalipuram, known for its stone-carved heritage. Visit the Shore Temple, which has stood by the sea for over 1,300 years, showcasing impressive bas-reliefs and twin towers – a prime example of early medieval Southern Indian architecture.
After lunch, continue to Pondicherry, where the afternoon is free for you to explore at your own pace.
For the next three nights, stay at Palais de Mahe – CGH Earth, located in the French Quarter.

Mahabalipuram temple visit
This morning, join a walking tour through Pondicherry’s Tamil Quarter. Explore Goubert Market and visit the Mahakavi Bharathiar Museum & Research Centre, the former home of Tamil poet and activist Bharati.
Stroll along Vysial Street, known for its restored buildings with Franco-Tamil architecture. Visit the 500-year-old Vedapureeswarer Temple and sample local delicacies.
The afternoon is free for you to explore the city or relax at your hotel.
Tonight, enjoy dinner with a European twist at a restaurant in the old quarter, highlighting Pondicherry’s blend of French, Asian and local cuisines.
After breakfast, visit Auroville, an experimental township founded in the 1960s. Home to people from around 49 nations, Auroville was created as a community based on harmony and shared ideals. Your guide will provide insights into its history, significance and ongoing development.
Return to the hotel in time for an included lunch, then spend the rest of your day at leisure.

After breakfast, drive approximately four hours to Thanjavur (formerly Tanjore) and check in to your hotel.
This afternoon is yours to enjoy at leisure.
Tonight, savour Tamil vegetarian cuisine, crafted with organic ingredients to showcase the region’s distinctive flavours.

This morning, take a guided tour of Thanjavur, centred around the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Brihadeeshwara Temple. Built in the 11th century under King Raja Raja Cholan, this Chola-era temple is a striking example of Dravidian architecture, with intricately carved gopuram towers depicting Hindu deities and contrasting Buddhist carvings within.
After lunch, return to your hotel to relax.
After breakfast, drive to Madurai with a stop in Tiruchirappalli, or ‘Trichy’. Explore its renowned temples, including the towering Rock Fort Temple and the sprawling Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple in Srirangam, dedicated to Lord Vishnu.
Pause for lunch at a local restaurant before continuing to Madurai, where you’ll check in and enjoy the rest of your day at leisure.
Travel time: Driving – approx. 2.5 hours
After breakfast, visit the Meenakshi Temple, known for its towering gopurams adorned with colourful stucco figures of deities and mythical animals. Dedicated to the consort of Lord Shiva, the temple dominates the surrounding township.
Continue to Tirumalai Nayak Palace, built in 1636 under the rule of King Tirumalai Nayak with the assistance of an Italian architect.
This evening, return to Meenakshi Temple to witness the Aarti ceremony, a traditional ritual where the image of Shiva is carried to another shrine amidst music, incense and oil lamps.
End your journey with a farewell dinner at a traditional restaurant in Madurai.
