Arrive later today at Sun Peaks, surrounded by one of Canada’s biggest ski areas.

Take an afternoon visit to the falls of Maligne Canyon, then continue to Maligne Lake for a narrated cruise across the largest lake in the Canadian Rockies, making sure to snap a photo as you glide along its waters.

Rise and shine for another day on the road. Start along the vast Icefields Parkway and hop aboard an all-terrain Ice Explorer for a drive out onto the Athabasca Glacier, one of six principal glaciers fed by the Columbia Icefield, sitting at an altitude of 2,700 metres. Enjoy the 90-minute tour where you can step out for a photo opportunity and the chance to fill your bottle from fresh glacial waters.

Later, continue to Lake Louise. Nestled between mountains and the Victoria Glacier, the shores of this glacier-fed lake are where you’ll be staying tonight. Check in at the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise, a world-renowned hotel offering views across the water and access to its nearby resort facilities.

You’ll have the afternoon to spend at leisure – perhaps book in a spa treatment or sit for high tea looking out on the lake (both at your own expense). In the evening, join your fellow travellers for a decadent three-course dinner at the hotel.

Breakfast and Dinner

Today, you’ll pass through the Inside Passage, a renowned cruising route through a protected network of waterways that wind through glacier-cut fjords, lush rainforests and diverse wildlife, from Misty Fjords National Monument to the famed Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve, along the coast of Southeast Alaska.

Sailing the Inside Passage offers opportunities to sight some of Alaska’s most sought-after wildlife, with humpback whales and orcas, bald eagles and brown bears waiting to be spotted. Stops along the route also showcase Alaska’s rich history, including Native Alaskan culture in Ketchikan and Skagway’s Gold Rush era legacy.

Today, arrive at Juneau, one of the most remote, beautiful and unique state capitals in the United States. Surrounded by water, forest and mountain sights, Juneau is known for its outdoor recreation, fresh seafood and fine dining — you can hike a glacier, eat fresh-caught fish on a seaside patio and tour a grand capitol building all in one day.

With some time to explore, you might hike up Mount Roberts to chance upon wild deer and bald eagles, or head north to Auke Bay for whale-watching opportunities — bring a good pair of binoculars to get the best view of these majestic creatures. If you prefer land mammals, a floatplane to a nearby wildlife reserve, such as Chichagof or Admiralty Island, offers the chance to spot bears in the wild.

The sleepy, misty city of around 32,000 has a frontier town vibe, yet welcomes more than a million visitors each summer, cementing it as Alaska’s number-one tourist destination.

Return to the ship before 10pm to continue your journey.

Arrive in Skagway at 7am with a day to discover this port town. At the height of the Klondike Gold Rush, Skagway served as the primary gateway to the legendary gold fields, quickly growing into Alaska’s largest settlement.

As the gold rush faded into the 1900s, so did Skagway, but today it has been reinvigorated as a gateway for those looking to explore Alaska’s colourful history, pristine wildlife and unrivalled natural beauty.

Much of the town has been preserved as part of the Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park, where rangers offer free walking tours. You’ll also find local galleries, curio shops and restaurants serving seafood plucked fresh from nearby waters.

Return to the ship by 8pm.

For tour departures in April, you’ll glide through Endicott Arm, a 30-mile fjord snaking through the Tracy Arm-Fords Terror Wilderness area, surrounded by granite cliffs, waterfalls and icebergs. As you venture deeper, the water shifts from grey to jade and the ice chunks grow larger and more plentiful.

The towering Dawes Glacier takes centre stage just around a bend — keep your camera ready for its renowned calving displays, as ice breaks off and plunges dramatically into the sea. Wildlife sightings are common throughout; Endicott Arm is one of the world’s largest breeding grounds for harbour seals, and you may also spot mountain goats, humpback whales and brown bears along the way.

For tour departures in May and July, on this day of the cruise you will encounter the towering icy peaks of Glacier Bay, gliding through fjords past dramatic scenery and spotting the abundant marine wildlife. As you gaze out at the massive tidewater glaciers, you might see soaring eagles, a brown bear wandering through mossy forests or even the splash of a breaching humpback whale.

Reboard your vessel by 2.30pm as you set sail south once more.

Please note: Tour departures in April will not be able to access Glacier Bay due to icy conditions.

Arrive in Ketchikan at 11am for a day of exploration. Alaska’s ‘First City’ is so named because it’s the first major landfall most cruisers pass as they enter the picturesque fjords of the Inside Passage, where the town clings to the banks of the Tongass Narrows, flanked by green forests.

Ketchikan has long been an important hub for the salmon fishing and packing industries. Visitors can try their luck sportfishing or savour freshly caught seafood at one of the local restaurants (at own expense). The town is also one of the best spots along the Inside Passage to explore Native Alaskan culture, with intricately carved totem poles at the Totem Heritage Center and Totem Bight State Park. Don’t miss historic Creek Street, a boardwalk built over Ketchikan Creek, lined with shops, smoked salmon and local art.

Rejoin the ship by 7pm for a timely departure and dinner on board.
