Australia’s first direct flight to the Maldives has changed the game on one of the world’s great bucket-list trips. Here’s what to expect onboard.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Luxury Escapes’, and Australia\u2019s, first-ever direct flight to the Maldives<\/a> took off on Monday night and I was lucky enough to be on it. This is not my first Maldivian\u00a0rodeo\u00a0and the time savings\u00a0are without a doubt the most impressive thing\u00a0about this bold new route.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In just under fifteen hours, I was sitting poolside at the\u00a0Centara\u00a0Grand\u00a0Lagoon Maldives,\u00a0complimentary\u00a0Champagne popped\u00a0and poured, staring over the\u00a0pale blue\u00a0waters of the lagoon and out\u00a0to\u00a0the protected roof.\u00a0Black-and-orange crabs\u00a0crawl\u00a0over\u00a0the rocks,\u00a0herons dip their beaks\u00a0hopefully\u00a0into\u00a0the sea,\u00a0and my flight feels like a week ago\u00a0already.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The last time I flew to the Maldives, I went via\u00a0Kuala Lumpur,\u00a0and\u00a0I would\u00a0have been\u00a0lining up again to get on another plane.\u00a0For many Australians, the Maldivian archipelago sits\u00a0stubbornly on their travel bucket list with the hassle of travelling there often keeping it from getting a much-deserved tick;\u00a0this new route<\/a> brings it a step closer.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
