California is exceptional year-round, with consistent sunny days and blue skies. Fall (September to November) is a magical time to visit, with its orange and russet colours and Halloween and Thanksgiving celebrations. Winter (November to March) brings fewer crowds and still has consistent warm days. Spring (April to June) promises mild weather and blooming wildflowers. Summer (June to August) is hot, ideal for beach dips.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n

Stop 1: Santa Barbara <\/h3>\n\n\n\n

1.5 hours up the Pacific Coast Highway from Los Angeles is Santa Barbara. Known as the American Riviera, it’s dotted with red-tiled roofs, with a Mediterranean feel and small world charm. Here, soft-sand beaches, like the surfer-dotted Leadbetter Beach and the lesser-known Miramar Beach, lead to leafy vineyards and cloud-skimming mountains \u2013 with excellent museums, restaurants and attractions to discover between. Among 17 acres of oak woodland and the Botanic Garden is the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History<\/a>, where a blue whale skeleton is an imposing sight in the foyer, while the Santa Barbara Museum of Art<\/a> houses some 27,000 exhibits. Just 40 minutes north from Santa Barbara is Solvang<\/a>. The Danish Capital of America, it\u2019s a must-stop destination with windmills, cobblestone streets, gift shops and endless Danish bakeries. It feels nothing like California, but more a sun-drenched corner of Denmark.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Drive an hour through mountains and vineyards to a treasure of California: San Luis Obispo. This town is incredibly unique; with smoking outlawed and no drive-through establishments, it feels like a step back in time, where slow-paced living is encouraged. The neighbouring Paso Robles is home to more than 200 wineries. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

15 minutes from San Luis Obispo, unpack your bags in Pismo Beach, where fresh salt air soothes the soul.
