{"id":19942,"date":"2024-06-07T14:18:14","date_gmt":"2024-06-07T04:18:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/luxuryescapes.com\/inspiration\/?p=19942"},"modified":"2024-06-07T14:18:19","modified_gmt":"2024-06-07T04:18:19","slug":"worlds-50-best-restaurants-2024","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/luxuryescapes.com\/inspiration\/worlds-50-best-restaurants-2024\/","title":{"rendered":"Australian Icon: Neil Perry Honoured at World\u2019s 50 Best Restaurants, the \u201cOscars\u201d of the Food World"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong><em>In a list otherwise devoid of Australian entries, veteran chef Neil Perry took home the Woodford Reserve Icon Award for his services to the industry.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Veteran chef and creator of the Rockpool restaurant group, Neil Perry was the sole Australian to receive an honour at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theworlds50best.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">World\u2019s 50 Best Restaurants Awards<\/a> held in Las Vegas on June 6. Neil is best known for launching his series of Rockpool restaurants in Australia and his work on the inflight menu for Qantas; he now runs the restaurant Margaret in Sydney\u2019s Double Bay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But neither Margaret, not any other Australian restaurants, appeared on the 2024 list of the World\u2019s 50 Best Restaurants. The only Australian entry was for seafood chef Josh Niland whose restaurant St Peter in Sydney landed at 98 on the extended 51-100 list that was announced in May.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"685\" src=\"https:\/\/luxuryescapes.com\/inspiration\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/W50BR24-Disfrutar-Copy-1024x685.jpg\" alt=\"-\" class=\"wp-image-19944\" srcset=\"https:\/\/luxuryescapes.com\/inspiration\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/W50BR24-Disfrutar-Copy-1024x685.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/luxuryescapes.com\/inspiration\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/W50BR24-Disfrutar-Copy-350x234.jpg 350w, https:\/\/luxuryescapes.com\/inspiration\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/W50BR24-Disfrutar-Copy-768x514.jpg 768w, https:\/\/luxuryescapes.com\/inspiration\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/W50BR24-Disfrutar-Copy.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Global dining superstars<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Good news for travellers to <a href=\"https:\/\/luxuryescapes.com\/search?destinationName=Spain&amp;destinationId=le_7e7757b1e12abcb736ab9a754ffb617a&amp;adults=2&amp;children=none&amp;flexibleWithDate=true&amp;pages=2\">Spain<\/a>, with Disfrutar topping the list. Created by El Bulli alum Oriol Castro, the Spanish fine diner first opened in 2014 and quickly climbed the list to second place last year. This year it knocked Lima\u2019s Central from the top spot with Central moving to the Best of the Best list with legends like The French Laundry, Noma and El Bulli.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The runner-up spot also went to a Spanish entry, Asador Etxebarri, a fire-driven restaurant by chef Victor Arguinzoniz in the Basque village of Atxondo that foregoes the usual fine-dining bells and whistles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Third place went to Table by Bruno Verjus in <a href=\"https:\/\/luxuryescapes.com\/search?destinationName=Paris&amp;destinationId=le_cb3f7087c987ceff5b306d4ff89f5db6&amp;adults=2&amp;children=none&amp;flexibleWithDate=true\">Paris<\/a> featuring a long counter and open kitchen where you can watch the chef plate his famous Colours of the Day, a daily dish of whatever seasonal herbs and vegetables the kitchen is featuring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hong Kong also had a good year, with Wing in <a href=\"https:\/\/luxuryescapes.com\/search?destinationName=Hong+Kong+SAR&amp;destinationId=le_28dd2c7955ce926456240b2ff0100bde&amp;adults=2&amp;children=none&amp;flexibleWithDate=true\">Hong Kong<\/a> earning the award for the Highest New Entry. Wing flew onto the list at number 20 for its nostalgic homage to \u201cthe eight, great Chinese cuisines\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hong Kong was also home to The Highest Climber Award, sponsored by Highstreet World, for The Chairman which moved up 24 spots to number 26.
