Awake to a spectacular sunrise stretching across the Nullarbor Plain, the arid country stretching across the South Australian coast. Spot mobs of kangaroos hopping across the horizon as the still desert expanse beams to life. You’ll have the option to visit the remote town of Rawlinna, home to tens of thousands of sheep and enjoy a morning refreshment (seasonal).
Stop off at the once-thriving community of Cook after lunch to catch a glimpse of pioneer times. The township was built in 1917 to help maintain Australia’s (and the world’s) longest single stretch of train tracks, but today the population size has dwindled to a single digit.
Enjoy another mouthwatering dinner with fellow travellers in the dining carriage before retiring to your cabin for a restful night’s sleep.
This morning, it’s your pick of activity in multi-faceted Adelaide. Choose from a guided walk or coach ride among the city’s historical buildings, gardens and North Terrace arts precinct, a journey into the restricted areas of the Adelaide Oval with a visit to the Sheffield Shield Museum, a tasting tour through the colourful aisles of 150-year-old Adelaide Central Market or a scenic drive through Adelaide Hills up to Mount Lofty Summit, where you’ll enjoy a glass of sparkling wine.
After spending the morning exploring your choice of sights, return to your cabin for lunch and to continue your journey.
Wake up to the enveloping beauty of the Blue Mountains after a restful sleep. Stop off at this UNESCO-listed area’s most breathtaking landmark, the Three Sisters at Echo Point, Katoomba. Take in picturesque views before returning to the Indian Pacific to travel the rest of the way to Sydney Central Station. Check in to your room in Darling Harbour, and spend the rest of your evening at leisure exploring the posh surrounding suburb of Surry Hills or perhaps the CBD’s glittering streets and Darling Harbour.
Spend the morning as you wish. Perhaps spend time walking around Sydney’s Chinatown or The Rocks, exploring the city’s many museums or visiting the iconic Sydney Opera House.
