The Shelburne Sonesta New York

So this hotel is my new favorite place! My Husband, 2 small kids and I had to come to NYC (from Chicago) to go to a bunch of appointments to get our paperwork in order to move to Norway. We initially thought we’d just make the shortest trip possible, but then we thought it might be nice to make more of a mini vacation out of it and take the kids to some fun places. I can’t say enough about how awesome every single person in this hotel had been to me and my spazzy toddlers. Truly the best staff ever. From the hotel, to the restaurant downstairs (Take Care), to the bar and restaurant upstairs (Vintage Green), they were so kind and accommodating. For example, my husband and I took the kids up to Vintage green, and we LOVED their drinks and food but my son wanted the burger from the restaurant downstairs so they made it happen. Even after we said not to worry about it. Special shout out to Christina, the super kind hostess, Tim, the AWESOME manager who truly went above and beyond, and Daniela, our server. I’ve never left a hotel review in my life. But this experience warranted a great review.

While my whole stay was pleasant, I wanted to take a moment and really put the spotlight on Ed/Eddie + David (Bellhop + Doorman I believe). Both individuals were truly a joy to converse with and willing to help in any way they could. No hesitation from either of them and they always took the conversation a step further to make a personal connection. 100% would return simply because of my experience with these two individuals. The room itself was nice, I was able to check in multiple hours early with no charge which was a lovely surprise. All staff was pleasant but the two above went above and beyond!

First I want to start my review by saying the hotel and room I stayed in were amazing. I stayed in the 1 bedroom suite and it was very spacious. The reason I’m giving a 3-star rating is due to the reception desk. My reservation was booked through Expedia and was originally for two nights. I work in hospitality so I know the protocol if you wish to make a change while booking through a third-party. I contact Expedia, they contact the hotel, the hotel modifies the date. COOL. I had a friend check in for me and to his (And my surprise), he was authorized $200 more than what it was supposed to be. (This is not the $200 incidental hold). When I contacted the hotel, they told me to discuss it at the desk the next morning. The next morning, I went to the desk to discuss the issue, I didn’t get the woman’s name (Fair skin, glasses) but she was very argumentative and condescending to me. I informed her that that rate was not the same as the one I had on the Expedia app and I suggested that this was changed by mistake when they updated the date (again, I work in hospitality as a rooms controller.) She tells me the rate changed because I changed the date of my stay. I told her that’s incorrect because third party reservation rates cannot be changed by the hotel, her exact words were “Well if you work in hospitality, you would know the rate would change but since you weren’t informed we will refund it as a courtesy.” Excuse me? I don’t like being spoken to like I’m stupid, especially when I know I’m not wrong. She was rude and unprofessional. If I didn’t know any better, I would even say micro-aggressive. I would suggest you train your stay better because they clearly don’t know what they’re talking about.
