Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive in Osaka

Konnichiwa! Welcome to Japan. On arrival at Kansai International Airport (KIX), you will be met by a local representative and transferred to the city known as Japan’s food bowl, where glittering lights and soaring signs reflect on the shimmering Osaka River and the sizzle of cooking takoyaki fills the air.

After check-in at Stargate Hotel Kansai (or similar), you will have the remainder of the day (depending on arrival time) to explore at your leisure.

Day 2: Osaka — Himeji — Hiroshima

This morning after breakfast, you will be transferred from Osaka by private vehicle to the ancient city of Hiroshima. Largely destroyed when the first atomic bomb — ‘Little Boy’ — devastated the city on August 6, 1945, Hiroshima preserves the memory of the world’s first nuclear attack through memorials, eyewitness testimony and annual anniversary ceremonies.

Familiar landmarks can be found lining the glistening Motoyasu River, where the haunting skeleton of the A-Dome can be seen reflected in its shimmering depths. Immediately across the river are the Bell of Peace and Atomic Bomb Memorial Burial Mound, with the Flame of Peace and Peace Memorial Park located just a little further downstream. If opportunity allows, be sure to talk to local volunteers at these iconic landmarks, as they have a wealth of history and information to divulge about these now-iconic sites.

En route to Hiroshima, enjoy a visit to the breathtakingly beautiful Himeji Castle, a vision of soaring white cascading down the hilltop in a series of magnificent pagodas. Considered one of Japan’s most beautiful surviving feudal castles, this magical site will leave you feeling like true royalty as you stroll through the sprawling gardens that surround this UNESCO World Heritage-listed site.

Following a full day’s exploration, it’s time to relax and enjoy dinner before settling into your accommodation at Grand Prince Hotel Hiroshima (or similar).

Day 3: Hiroshima — Miyajima Island — Hiroshima Island

This morning, start the day with a tranquil cruise across Hiroshima Bay to Miyajima Island, known for lush mountains of maple tree forest, cobblestone laneways filled with iconic maple cake stores and home to friendly local deer. You may even be lucky enough to get a selfie with them.

Then, enjoy a short stroll to the edge of the sea to admire the soaring beauty of the iconic Itsukushima Shrine. A UNESCO World Heritage site dedicated to the three daughters of the Shinto deity of seas and storms, this famous landmark appears to float above the water at high tide. As the water recedes, you may get the unique opportunity to walk around this sacred site.

Returning to Hiroshima in the afternoon, enjoy a visit to the Peace Memorial Park and Atomic Bomb Museum.

Day 4: Hiroshima — Osaka

Bid farewell to Hiroshima this morning as you begin your journey back to Osaka. Following the coastal road along the Seto Inland Sea, you will visit the historic city of Kurashiki, a water city renowned for its breathtakingly well-preserved canal area dating back to the Edo Period, and Kobe, considered one of Japan’s most attractive cities. Perched on a hillside sloping toward the sea, this maritime gateway was one of the earliest trade ports with China and is known today for its signature marbled beef. If time allows, try to enjoy a bite of this world-renowned beef before your journey to Osaka resumes.

On arrival, the remainder of the day is yours to explore as you please.

Day 5: Osaka — Nara — Kyoto — Osaka

Head to Nara this morning, where you will begin by exploring the Todaiji Temple, a massive wooden temple containing one of Japan’s largest bronzed Buddha. Stroll its grounds alongside the tame 1,000 Sika deer that wander through the temples, sleep in corners and sneakily nudge your hands for a treat — be careful, they can bite if you don’t oblige.

Afterwards, travel to Kyoto, a time capsule of laneways filled with tea houses, izakayas and geisha — if you can spot them vanishing down the back alleys. On arrival, visit Nijo Castle, where you can revel in the atmosphere of this historic residence of the Tokugawa Shogunate.

Later, admire the Kinkakuji (Golden Pavilion), a Zen temple and World Heritage site with two floors covered entirely in thin layers of pure gold and detailed architecture incorporating the three distinct architectural styles of Shinden, Samurai and Zen.

Day 6: Osaka — Kyoto — Mt. Fuji

Following breakfast this morning, return to Kyoto and wander across the Togetsu Bridge, the landmark of Western Kyoto’s Arashiyama District for over four hundred years. Then, get lost in the surreal and otherworldly beauty of the Arashiyama Bamboo Forest. Gliding across wooden paths that weave through dense tickets of tall bamboo stalks, find a quiet corner to listen to the rustling, creaking, and swaying of trunks that knock together, creating a peaceful sound like almost nothing else.

After lunch, travel onwards to Mt. Fuji on a world-famous Shinkansen bullet train. Watch as flashes of futuristic skyscrapers, shrines and lush fields pass by in its 320-kilometres-per-hour dash from Kyoto to Tokyo. This time-defying lghtning bolt is diminished only by the majesty of the cloud-cloaked Mt. Fuji, a sight which makes time stand still for a serene, spectacular moment.

On arrival, you will be transferred to your HOTEL MYSTAYS Fuji Onsen Resort, where you can experience an iconic onsen or Japanese bathhouse (additional costs may apply). Located on the top floor of the hotel, this bathhouse invites you to soak in the beauty of Mt. Fuji as it’s hit by the rising sun or simply melt away in its restorative depths.

Day 7: Mt. Fuji

Begin today by experiencing the hypnotising beauty of the Oshino Hakkai, also known as the Springs of Mt. Fuji — eight ponds fed by melting snow gliding down the slopes of Mt. Fuji to create crystal-clear spring water revered by the locals.

Afterwards, ascend Mt. Fuji to the fifth station, hidden above the clouds. Depending on the weather, you might be able to capture the iconic mountain in all its breathtaking glory. Alternatively, you could choose to visit Gotemba Peace Park and Hakone Checkpoint, also renowned for its awe-inspiring vistas of the soaring, snow-capped feat of nature.

Later, join a cruise of Lake Ashi, formed in the caldera of Mt. Hakone after the volcano’s last eruption over 3,000 years ago. The perfect backdrop to Mt. Fuji, this cruise affords vistas of Moto-Hakone, the Hakone Detached Palace Garden and the lush forests of Fuji Hakone Izu National Park.

Day 8: Mt. Fuji — Tokyo

Begin today by embarking on a cruise of Lake Ashi, formed in the caldera of Mt. Hakone after the volcano’s last eruption. It’s a soul-stirring sight that’s been immortalised in centuries of Japanese poetry and art, most famously in Hokusai’s woodblock print of the lake below Mt. Fuji. Head to Tokyo, where you’ll visit the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building Observatories, offering one of the best views of the the city’s famous skyline. The building is one of the tallest in Tokyo, standing at an incredible 243 metres in height. Check-in to the Sunshine City Prince Hotel and enjoy the rest of the day at leisure.

Home to one of the most accessible train lines in the world, discovering Tokyo is effortless — simply remember your line colour and station number. From Ikebukuro, you could catch a train to Shinjuku, filled with neon lights and vibrant pachinko game parlours, stroll Harajuku’s bubblegum-hued shopping district or get lost in the anime haven of Akihabara, home to maid and cat cafés.

Insider tip: For a unique experience, be sure to visit the unique Swallowtail butler café in Ikebukuro, where a waiter will be at your beck and call with high tea and freshly steeped pots of earl grey.

Continue your Tokyo exploration at your leisure today. From gourmet exploration to cultural odysseys, there’s something for everyone in this neon-lit, futuristic landscape. You could venture to the world-famous Ghibli Museum, a magical place that lets you play in and explore the world of Studio Ghibli, join an optional Tokyo Day Tour or see the Gotokuji Temple, the legendary birthplace of the Japanese maneki-neko, filled with hundreds of lucky beckoning cats.

Name Change or Corrections

Following the 7-Day Change of Mind Guarantee period,

  • Name corrections may incur a fee.

  • Name changes are not permitted.

  • You can enjoy one free date change on selected tours up until 90 days prior to original travel date (subject to seasonal surcharges or package upgrades). Changes can be made via your ‘My Escapes’ account, or by contacting the Luxury Escapes Customer Support Team at trustedpartnertours@luxuryescapes.com. Any subsequent date changes will incur a fee of A$250 per person plus any further costs that may apply.

Passports & Visas

  • A visa may be required. It is the traveller’s responsibility to ensure they’re holding a current visa for the countries they’re visiting. If the traveller is on a non-Australian passport, a valid re-entry visa may be required.
  • Important: Please start arranging your visa at least 6-8 weeks prior to departure to account for any delays due to consulate operating hours and processing time.
  • A valid passport with a minimum validity of 6 months beyond your return travel date is required for all passengers (including children and infants).

Photo ID

  • For all international tours, a digital copy of your passport may be required to be provided to the Trusted Partner Tour Operator prior to your tour departure.
  • For domestic tours, a digital copy of a government-issued photo identification (passport or driver’s license) may be required to be provided to the Trusted Partner Tour Operator prior to your tour departure.
  • Failure to provide valid photo ID as required by the Trusted Partner Tour Operator may result in your booking being cancelled and all monies paid remaining non-refundable.

Health & Vaccinations

  • Travellers are advised to check the vaccine requirements for their trip with their local health professional at least 45 days prior to departure, as some vaccines require 30 days or more to be effective. Transfers

  • If transfers are included in your package, please note that these are only available on the first and last day of your tour. Arrival and departure transfers are included between the hours of 6am and 6pm only. If you arrive outside these hours a supplement may apply.   • If booking a Twin Room package, transfers are based on two people sharing the one vehicle. If you are arriving on different flights at different times, a supplement will be charged for two separate vehicles.
  • Flight details must be advised as per the Trusted Partner Tour Operator requirements. Failure to provide your confirmed flight details within the time period specified by the Trusted Partner Tour Operator will result in forfeiting your transfer.

Tipping

Tipping and gratuities are not included in the package unless otherwise stated, and are at your own discretion. As a guide, approximately JYP1,043–JYP1,565 per person, per day, is the industry standard.

Fitness Requirements

Travellers acknowledge that they are required to have a good level of health and fitness to undertake the activities on this tour. Further, travellers acknowledge and agree that neither Luxury Escapes nor the tour provider will be able to provide medical or other assistance in the event that they are unable to complete any aspect of the tour as a result of their health or physical condition (nor is Luxury Escapes liable for any loss, damage, expense, injury or death arising from such).

Itinerary Amendments & Changes

In the event of a change in itinerary (due to safety or events outside of our control) which results in cancellation or change fees in respect of flights (or other parts of your travel) we will notify you as soon as practicable. You will be responsible for any associated costs or will otherwise have the right to a refund (less any costs incurred or paid to third parties).

Surcharges

After completing your booking, your tour cost may be subject to additional surcharges as a result of factors beyond the control of Luxury Escapes. Where the cost of delivering your selected tour materially increases between the time of purchase and delivery, Luxury Escapes reserves the right to increase the balance due. Increases may be in relation to, but not limited to, currency fluctuations, taxes, airfares, fuel surcharges or tour costs where those costs have increased for similar reasons. A material increase will be considered once in excess of 10% of the package price.

Bookings (except for cruise bookings and flights which are subject to the cancellation terms of the relevant supplier) may be cancelled with a full refund provided that cancellation occurs strictly within 7 days from the date of purchase and provided that the cancellation is made no less than 90 days prior to the departure date.

Covid-19 Related Cancellations

For all new bookings, if you can’t travel as a direct result of border closures or Government-imposed travel restrictions that directly impact your booking, Luxury Escapes will:

  • allow you to change the dates of your tour,
  • offer you a credit for another tour, cruise or accommodation offer, less any third-party costs that Luxury Escapes can’t recover (including from airlines and tour providers), or
  • refund the full value of your tour, less any third-party costs that Luxury Escapes can’t recover (including from airlines and tour providers)

Flight Schedule Changes and/or Cancellations (if applicable)

  • Please note that the rules governing your flight purchase are different from the terms and conditions of your hotel, tour, or cruise purchase. See Flights terms and conditions here.
  • Your hotel, tour, or cruise booking cannot be changed or cancelled in the event of unavoidable flight schedule changes or cancellations and will be subject to the terms of that purchase.
  • Further, your right to a change or cancellation of a flight is strictly governed by the terms and conditions of the specific airfare you purchased and as determined by the relevant airline carrier.
  • We will, however, make every effort to work with airlines and suppliers in order to provide you with the best alternative options available.

Booking Process

  • Select which package option you would like, taking care to choose the correct season, length of stay and room capacity (Twin Room or Solo Traveller)
  • Click on the green ‘Check Availability’ tab
  • Using the plus or minus, adjust the number of people you would like to book then click the ‘View Available Dates & Prices’ tab
  • Click the blue ‘Select’ button then the green ‘Review & Payment’ tab at the bottom right of the screen
  • Fill out your preferred payment method and click the green ‘Pay Securely Now’ tab
  • Once your order is complete, you will receive your Luxury Escapes automated booking summary email (this is not your tour confirmation)
  • You will then be contacted by the Trusted Partner Tour Operator who will collect your Traveller Details
  • The Trusted Partner Tour Operator will then also contact you to advise if your tour is confirmed. If your chosen tour departure date is guaranteed at the time of booking, you may be able to purchase flights immediately. If your tour departure date is not yet guaranteed (still pending minimum numbers), flights should not be booked until you receive an update on the status of your tour.

IMPORTANT: The Twin-Room Package is valid for ONE PERSON (based on twin room). If you are travelling with another person you must purchase TWO PACKAGES, otherwise please purchase a solo traveller package. Solo travellers will get their own room throughout the tour.

AMENDMENTS & CHANGES

Name Change or Corrections

Following the 7-Day Change of Mind Guarantee period,

  • Name corrections may incur a fee.

  • Name changes are not permitted.

  • You can enjoy one free date change on selected tours up until 90 days prior to original travel date (subject to seasonal surcharges or package upgrades). Changes can be made via your ‘My Escapes’ account, or by contacting the Luxury Escapes Customer Support Team at trustedpartnertours@luxuryescapes.com. Any subsequent date changes will incur a fee of A$250 per person plus any further costs that may apply.

  • The Trusted Partner or the Luxury Escapes Customer Support Team will advise if the change is confirmed via email and provide an invoice for the following: date change fees, costs from third-party suppliers, air and rail travel and hotels (cabins on cruises).

  • Date changes do not apply to flights booked with Luxury Escapes. Flight fulfilment and changes are governed by the airline(s) selected at the time of finalising the booking. For your air travel, you are bound by the terms and conditions and fare rules of the selected airline(s).

Age Restrictions

  • This tour is restricted to guests aged 2 years or older.

Group Size

  • Minimum number for this tour to operate is 20 guests. If your chosen tour departure date is guaranteed at the time of booking, you may be able to purchase flights immediately. If your tour departure date is not yet guaranteed (still pending minimum numbers), flights should not be booked until you receive an update on the status of your tour.
  • Maximum tour capacity is 40 people.
  • Please note that this tour is not exclusive to Luxury Escapes guests, and you may be travelling with other members of the public.

Travel Insurance

  • Travel insurance is strongly recommended. Luxury Escapes recommends purchasing travel insurance as soon as possible after purchasing this package.
  • Luxury Escapes can assist you in purchasing travel insurance through our preferred provider. Please enquire for further information and to see if our policy is suitable for you.

Passports & Visas

  • A visa may be required. It is the traveller’s responsibility to ensure they’re holding a current visa for the countries they’re visiting. If the traveller is on a non-Australian passport, a valid re-entry visa may be required.
  • Important: Please start arranging your visa at least 6-8 weeks prior to departure to account for any delays due to consulate operating hours and processing time.
  • A valid passport with a minimum validity of 6 months beyond your return travel date is required for all passengers (including children and infants).

Photo ID

  • For all international tours, a digital copy of your passport may be required to be provided to the Trusted Partner Tour Operator prior to your tour departure.
  • For domestic tours, a digital copy of a government-issued photo identification (passport or driver’s license) may be required to be provided to the Trusted Partner Tour Operator prior to your tour departure.
  • Failure to provide valid photo ID as required by the Trusted Partner Tour Operator may result in your booking being cancelled and all monies paid remaining non-refundable.

Health & Vaccinations

  • Travellers are advised to check the vaccine requirements for their trip with their local health professional at least 45 days prior to departure, as some vaccines require 30 days or more to be effective. Please check with your health professional that you hold the appropriate vaccination entry requirements for your destination.

  • Important: The hotel, transportation and/or destination you are travelling to may have health, insurance and vaccination requirements in place. Please ensure you stay up to date with any requirements prior to your departure.

Transfers

  • If transfers are included in your package, please note that these are only available on the first and last day of your tour. Arrival and departure transfers are included between the hours of 6am and 6pm only. If you arrive outside these hours a supplement may apply. Please contact the Trusted Partner Tour Operator for further information.
  • If booking a Twin Room package, transfers are based on two people sharing the one vehicle. If you are arriving on different flights at different times, a supplement will be charged for two separate vehicles.
  • Flight details must be advised as per the Trusted Partner Tour Operator requirements. Failure to provide your confirmed flight details within the time period specified by the Trusted Partner Tour Operator will result in forfeiting your transfer.

Tipping

Tipping and gratuities are not included in the package unless otherwise stated, and are at your own discretion. As a guide, approximately JYP1,043–JYP1,565 per person, per day, is the industry standard.

Fitness Requirements

Travellers acknowledge that they are required to have a good level of health and fitness to undertake the activities on this tour. Further, travellers acknowledge and agree that neither Luxury Escapes nor the tour provider will be able to provide medical or other assistance in the event that they are unable to complete any aspect of the tour as a result of their health or physical condition (nor is Luxury Escapes liable for any loss, damage, expense, injury or death arising from such).

Itinerary Amendments & Changes

In the event of a change in itinerary (due to safety or events outside of our control) which results in cancellation or change fees in respect of flights (or other parts of your travel) we will notify you as soon as practicable. You will be responsible for any associated costs or will otherwise have the right to a refund (less any costs incurred or paid to third parties).

Surcharges

After completing your booking, your tour cost may be subject to additional surcharges as a result of factors beyond the control of Luxury Escapes. Where the cost of delivering your selected tour materially increases between the time of purchase and delivery, Luxury Escapes reserves the right to increase the balance due. Increases may be in relation to, but not limited to, currency fluctuations, taxes, airfares, fuel surcharges or tour costs where those costs have increased for similar reasons. A material increase will be considered once in excess of 10% of the package price.
