Itinerary

Day 1 - Launceston – Musselroe Bay to Boulder Point - 13km walking, approx. 5 hours of walking, including breaks (easy to moderate grade)

You will be picked up from the Hotel Grand Chancellor in Launceston at 7.45am for an 8am departure. Head out into the northern section of Mount William National park to begin the Bay of Fires beach walk at the northern end of Musselroe Bay. Walk from the remote coastal conservation area of Musselroe Bay to Boulder Point, predominantly on the sand. The incredibly scenic coastline of deserted white-sand beaches is punctuated by windswept headlands, sheltered lagoons and estuaries. Following on from this, head off for an easy one-hour return walk to the top of Mt William. From the peak (216m) in clear weather, you can enjoy extensive views over the coast and inland, while to the north you’ll see some of the Bass Strait islands. Then head back to the accommodation to unpack and enjoy pre-dinner nibbles followed by a two-course meal prepared by your guides.

Day 2 - Boulder Point to Deep Creek - 13km, approx. 5 hours walking, including breaks (moderate grade)

After breakfast and lunch preparation, head off for the day’s beach walk from Boulder Point to Deep Creek in Mt William National Park. From its long beaches to its teeming wildlife; from its unique history to its abundant plant life, Mt William National Park is a place of constant fascination. This section is one of the more remote and untouched along the trail. Explore Boulder Point, Cobbler Rocks and Cod Bay finishing at Deep Creek. Today’s trek includes some sand walking and there are some rocky areas around the headlands to navigate, but the scenery is well worth the effort. Finish the day at Eddystone Point with a visit to the impressive pink granite lighthouse built in 1889. After the day’s walk, head back to your accommodation for well-earned pre-dinner nibbles followed by a fabulous two-course meal prepared by your guides.

Accommodation: Icena Farm House

Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner

Day 3 - Deep Creek via Eddyson Point to Ansons Bay - 15km, approx 6 hours walking, including breaks (moderate grade)

After breakfast and lunch preparation, begin today’s walk at Deep Creek and head south to beautiful Anson’s Bay. Bird life here is rich and varied, with nearly 100 species occurring here. Heathland species include the superb blue wren, flame, dusk and scarlet robin. Being a coastal park, Mt. William is also an excellent area for observing sea birds. After the day’s walk, head back to your accommodation for well-earned pre-dinner nibbles followed by a fabulous two-course meal prepared by your guides.

Accommodation: Icena Farm House

Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner

Day 4 - Policeman’s Point to The Gardens - 15 km, approx. 4 to 5 hours walking including breaks (moderate grade)

After breakfast and lunch preparation, head into the Bay of Fires Conservation area for the last day’s walking. Beginning at Policeman’s Point, traverse the iconic white sands you have come to know as the beautiful Bay of Fires. Most of today’s walking is along the wide, sandy beaches, crossing over Pebbly Beach, Break Yoke Beach and Gardens Lagoon Beach to your final destination of the Gardens. Along the way, you will navigate some tricky rocky headlands which consist of 3kmx1km sections of large, loose rock, as well as forested tracks. From here, head back toward Launceston. The tour aims to be back in Launceston by approximately 5pm so if flying out after the tour please do not book flights before 6.30pm.
