Your adventure begins at Broome Airport (BME), where you’ll meet your guide as you embark on an early 7am charter flight. As you take to the skies, spot the vibrant colours of Broome’s historical Chinatown before experiencing the picturesque coastline of Roebuck Bay and the wetlands of Roebuck Plains. Revel in the breathtaking contrast of milky turquoise, rich reds and verdant mangroves decorating the incredible naturally diverse wetlands and ocean shores.
Touch down at Derby, an historic outback town at the edge of King Sound. Join a guided tour to the 1,500-year-old Boab Prison Tree (Kunumudj), with the option to visit the Mowanjum Art and Culture Centre (closed on Mondays).
Later, take a scenic drive to the expansive Bandilngan (Windjana Gorge) National Park. From here, your luxury 4WD will bring you to Dimalurru (Tunnel Creek), an ethereal 750-metre cave system, full of hidden chambers and stalactites. Learn the legend of Jandamarra, an Indigenous Australian freedom fighter who used the tunnel as his hideout in the late 1800s. At the end of the tunnel, take a dip in a mystical swimming hole to cool off, before sitting down to a gourmet picnic, connecting with the natural wonder that surrounds you.
Next, explore the winding riverbeds and towering cliffs of marvellous Windjana Gorge itself. Be sure to keep an eye out for the incredible concentration of freshwater crocodiles that live in the area, as well as bats and other wildlife.
In the late afternoon, travel along Gibb River Road via 4WD, taking the cattle track to Mount Hart Wilderness Lodge, where a delightful three-course welcome dinner awaits. As the sun sets on your first day of adventure, settle into your luxury safari tent to recharge for a new day.
