Spend the day exploring Reno, known as The Biggest Little City in the World, where you’ll find an array of arts, culture and food that will keep you well and truly entertained. Journey to Lake Tahoe

It’s time to hit the road! Start travelling from Reno to Lake Tahoe and stop off at iconic sites from Virginia City and Carson City to Genoa along the way. Step back in time to 1859 and get a taste for Nevada’s Wild West while in Virginia City where silver mining boomed (also known as the discovery of the Comstock Lode).

Drive for another 25 minutes southeast and reach Carson City, the capital of the state of Nevada. Here you can explore the enticing Nevada State Museum and bask in the beauty of the picturesque surroundings of the Sierra Mountains.

When you’re ready to leave, drive further south for 20 minutes and reach Genoa - a charming historic town known for its exciting nature activities such as hiking, biking and cycling trails.

Today, you’ll arrive at the famous Lake Tahoe where there are numerous activities to keep you entertained for days. For the adventure lovers, rent out a clear kayak and marvel at the sea life swimming below through the crystal-clear water. The Loneliest Road in America

It’s time to depart Lake Tahoe and travel to the small town of Ely, first stopping at a few iconic sites along the Loneliest Road in America, also known as U.S. Route 50. Pull into Middlegate for a dose of American West history and to pay a visit to some original Sagebrush Saloons. If you’re up for a food challenge, dine at Middlegate Monster Burger for possibly the largest and most iconic burger you’ll ever eat.

Next, marvel at the enormous sand dunes at the Sand Mountain State Park – an adventure lover’s dream for those who love trail riding, dirt biking and quad biking. Before reaching Ely, stop at Austin, known as a 150-year-old ghost town with a population of only 200 people. Once you’ve reached the quaint town of Ely, feel free to relax in your accommodation or, if you have the energy, experience more history by riding on a historic steam train.

Explore Great Basin National Park

Today, experience Nevada’s natural beauty at the Great Basin National Park. Take a tour at around the must-see Lehman Caves, a gothic-style geological wonder with stalactites and stalagmites that will take your breath away.

It wouldn’t be a trip to the famous National Park without seeing the Great Basin Bristlecone pines, known as the oldest tree species on the planet, reaching 5000 years old. An unusual-looking tree, the unique appearance helps it to survive harsh weather conditions shaped by wind, rain and snow.

For hiking enthusiasts - you’re in luck! Take your pick of the many hiking trails at the park which vary in lengths and difficulty levels from easy to challenging. Kill two birds and hike while seeing the bristlecone pines, by taking the easy Bristlecone Pine Trail.

Great Basin Highway

Time to take off on U.S. Route 93 also known as the Great Basin Highway. Along the way, stop at many iconic sites before reaching Hoover Dam Lodge in Boulder City for an overnight stay.

First up, pay a visit to the small town of Pioche. Take in a dose of history at Lincoln County Museum or set foot on trail to the Miller Point Lookout for a scenic view of the Cathedral Gorge.

Next, drive 30 minutes south and stop for lunch in Caliente, a tiny and beautiful town, situated between the rolling hills of Nevada.

After a restful break, head to Kershaw-Ryan State Park, only two miles south of Caliente. Marvel at the colourful rainbow-hued canyon and spot wildlife such as wild horses, deer and sea life.

Finally, visit Hoover Dam, the most-visited dam in the world constructed during the Great Depression that currently provides water to over 16 million people.
