But it’s the lavishly decorated sitting area that really catches the eye. Here, a sofa faces an ornamental (and ornate) white mantelpiece. There’s a mirror above and, on either side, equine portraits – all outlined in gold-leaf frames. Just beside the fireplace, a set of French doors opens onto the stuccoed balcony. Next door, delicate artworks (pretty floral prints) hang above the double bed in the master bedroom, where you’ll also find this home’s TV. Like the sitting room, the bedroom has high ceilings, long curtains and elaborately gilt mirror.
