Where to holiday in Japan depends on what type of adventure you’d like to have! The island nation is a masterclass in contrast – ancient tradition sits by the latest advances in technology, snowfields sit above sun-soaked beaches and the bustling high-rises of main cities are interspersed with Zen gardens.

Most visitors on a Japan holiday package will start in Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka or Hiroshima. In the capital, scramble across the manic Shibuya Crossing before shopping until you drop, or watch the city go by from the 634m-high Skytree. Travel by Shinkansen (bullet train) to Kyoto to explore the ancient capital, home to countless palaces shrines, temples and gardens, or continue onto the nation’s kitchen of Osaka to ‘kuiadore’ – eat yourself broke! Learn more about the country’s long history at Hiroshima before venturing further afield – will it be the snowfields and onsens of Niseko or the beaches of Okinawa?

With so much to do with a Japan holiday package, it’s best to spend at least two weeks exploring all that it has to offer – but if you can spare longer, we wouldn’t be complaining!
