Beijing, Xi’an and Shanghai Eight Day Tour
(B=Breakfast, L=Lunch, S=Special Banquet)
Day One: Arrive Beijing
Arrive in Beijing, the capital city of China. Your tour guide will warmly greet you at the airport arrival hall and you will be transferred to your hotel.
Day Two: Beijing (B/L/S)
Beijing served as the capital of five dynasties over a period of 800 years. Start the morning with a visit to Tiananmen Square, the second largest city square in the world. Next stop is the Forbidden City, home to Chinese emperors for more than 500 years. In the afternoon, visit the Temple of Heaven, one of the best examples of Ming Dynasty architecture and also an ornate sanctuary where Chinese emperors offered sacrifices to heaven and prayed for good harvest. Tonight’s welcome dinner includes the local delicacy “Peking Roast Duck”.
Day Three: Beijing (B/L/D)
The highlight today is an excursion to the majestic Great Wall at Juyong Guan Pass, where you’ll have the chance to climb a portion of this 3,700-mile marvel. Visit one of the largest Jade Exhibitions in Asia en-route. After lunch, see skilled artisans at work at a Cloisonné Factory. Later, visit the Changling Exhibition Hall of the Ming Tombs. Return to the city in the afternoon and see an optional large-scale Chinese musical drama -“The Golden Mask Dynasty” at your own expense (AUD$55 per person - guide, transfers and admission included) followed by dinner.
Optional Program: The Golden Mask Dynasty
“The Golden Mask Dynasty” is an original Chinese musical drama which tells a mythical fairy-tale like story of war, royal banquets, and romance. The large-scale production includes more than 200 performances and features Chinese dances, acrobatics, costumes, and lighting and acoustics, representing a soul-stirring and romantic “great love and harmony” legend!
Day Four: Beijing to Xi’an (B/L)
Tour the exquisite Summer Palace in the morning, the largest preserved ancient garden in China and a former summer resort for Emperors. Next stop is the Beijing Zoo to see one of China’s national treasures – the Giant Pandas. In the afternoon, take the high-speed bullet train to Xi’an (approx. 5 hours).
Day Five: Xi’an (B/L/S)
The Eastern terminus of the fabled Silk Road and one of the ancient capitals of China, Xi'an is home to the Terracotta Army, designed to follow the first emperor of the Qin Dynasty (221-206 BC) into eternity. Visit the excavation site of the life-sized defenders, Terracotta Warriors and Horses, followed by a visit to a Ceramics Art Factory. In the evening, enjoy a special Imperial Dumpling Banquet and spectacular music and dance show reminiscent of the Tang Dynasty (618-907 A.D.), a period generally considered a golden era of the Chinese civilization.
Day Six: Xi’an to Shanghai (B/L/D)
In the morning, visit the Ancient City Wall, which not only is the most complete city wall that has survived in China, but also one of the largest and most complete ancient military defense systems in the world, followed by noodle lunch featuring a special noodle making demonstration. Afterwards, fly to Shanghai - the vibrant metropolis and commercial centre of China. Walk along the famous Bund, a mile-long stretch along the Huangpu River. Lined by colonial architectures of European design, this area is the best place to capture the Western influences of the old days. Enjoy fabulous Shanghai cuisine for tonight’s farewell celebration dinner. After dinner, enjoy an optional Night Cruise on the Huangpu River and get a glimpse of the dazzling and charming night view of Shanghai (AUD$30 per person - guide, transfers and admission included).
Optional Program: Night Cruise on the Huangpu River
As you cruise along the Huangpu River, you will get a glimpse of the history and spectacular night view of cosmopolitan Shanghai. On one side of the river, there is The Bund, a landmark of Shanghai. Lining the boulevard of the waterfront are grandiose solid buildings of Western style dating back to the early 19th century. On the other side is the charming image of modern Shanghai.
Day Seven: Shanghai (B/L)
After breakfast, visit the Old Town which is a perfect combination of gardens, temples, old architecture, civil culture, business souvenirs and food. Continue on to the bustling shopping district, Nanjing Road. Enjoy the rest of the day at your own leisure.
Day Eight: Depart Shanghai (B)
Free time at your own leisure before you are transferred to the Longyang Road Station to take the Shanghai Maglev Train to the Pudong Airport to board your onward/homebound flight. The trip may be over, but the experiences and memories will certainly last a life time.
