Your morning might begin with a gentle thumping sound of wallabies just outside your character-filled lodge – and if the inquisitive white wallaby doesn’t provide your wake-up call, the scent of stewed fruits, hot porridge and tea from the kitchen is sure to lure you out of bed. After breakfast, walk along the sweeping white sands of Cloudy Bay and the East Cloudy Head Track (approximately 4.5 hours of moderate walking).
As you walk along the windswept beach track, you will be greeted by postcard-worthy coastal views before ascending through heathland, teeming with birdlife and colourful flora. Arriving at the summit, you’ll enjoy expansive views of Cape Bruny Lighthouse, Tasmania’s South Ranges and the wild waves of the Southern Ocean — there’s nothing standing between you and Antarctica here, so soak it all in.
In the afternoon, enjoy an optional stopover at the Inala Jurassic Gardens in Lunawanna and a visit to the family-run Bruny Island Winery, the perfect place to enjoy a delicious wine tasting (at your own expense). Alternatively, take the afternoon off and relax in the lodge.
Another sublime walking track calls today, with seven kilometres of enchanting forest, bubbling creeks and towering eucalyptus. After breakfast and lunch preparation, transfer to the bus to head to the small township of Adventure Bay, before starting the short Mavista Nature Walk.
After, you’ll be driven to the Pennicott Cruise terminal, where you will begin your scenic hike (approximately five hours of moderate walking) from the terminal along the Fluted Cape Circuit. Head through dense native forest and ascend the island’s highest point (571 metres). Descend the circuit through dense she-oak forest to Grass Point and Penguin Island, affording spectacular vistas of the Fluted Cape’s dolerite cliffs. On the final walk back to Adventure Bay, keep your eyes peeled for a family of white Bennett’s wallabies that reside in the area.
Alternatively, you can choose to take a three-hour Bruny Island Cruise this afternoon instead of some of today’s walking activities (at your own expense). This wilderness boat trip traces the dramatic Bruny Island coastline, with towering sea cliffs, seals and occasional sightings of dolphins and migratory whales. The cruise departs daily from Adventure Bay. If you are interested in joining the cruise, please discuss this with your guides on Day 1 of your tour.
Bid farewell to your rustic timber chalet this morning as you journey north across The Neck to take in the beauty of the Cape Queen Elizabeth Track. Discover the point where the pristine beach meets rocky bluffs on this breathtaking hike (approximately 4.5 hours of moderate walking) past the aptly named Big and Little Lagoons.
The track traces a long stretch of white sand before hitting a fork. Depending on the tides, you may continue north along the shore or inland to climb over Mars Bluff. From the ridgetop, you’ll be rewarded with fantastic views back towards The Neck and Fluted Cape’s limestone cliffs.
Continue along the track and watch as coastal dunes reveal iconic Miles Beach. Don’t forget to look around: this area boasts an abundance of birdlife, including the rare forty-spotted pardalote, and magnificent rock formations, including Miles Beach’s rocky archway, a natural cathedral that perfectly frames the beachfront.
Arriving at the end of the track, take in the mesmerising views across Adventure Bay before returning to the bus. Afterwards, you will be transferred to the dock for your return ferry to Kettering and return transfer to either Hotel Grand Chancellor or Hobart Airport.
