Stayed here for 3 nights visiting from Sydney. Initially booked to stay at another hotel but our reservation was cancelled due to damage from cyclone Alfred. Booked last minute at the Sofitel. Staff were lovely and any request was promptly met. Over all the hotel is dated. Rooms are nice but blankets and towels have loose threads, curtains have holes and the pool is missing tiles etc. Buffet breakfast had many options including GF and the staff were lovely. The biggest let down of our stay being - we were called shortly after checking in and asked to attend a 60 minute presentation the following morning by the Accor Group. If so we would receive a credit to be used at the hotel restaurants. We accepted and changed our plans the following day to attend. The next day we were greeted by the Accor employee (not the same person who called a different employee) in the lobby who took us up to the presentation. On the elevator ride he asked us questions about our understanding of the presentation. We explained the above and he proceeded to tell us it was a sales presentation meeting. We were assuming it was along the lines of that… His attitude seem to change in the 30 second elevator ride. When we got out he asked our ages which are 26 & 27. He then told us unfortunately you must be 28 to attend and turned us away. It felt like a complete lie and he just didn’t see us as potential inventor’s. Also, we’re were asked our ages on the phone when presented with the opportunity. We were left feeling upset and that our time had been wasted. We were contacted the next day and asked why we didn’t attend, I explained the above. I was told it would be looked into and contacted back… I never heard back. We mentioned it to the reception and while sympathetic they explained the Accor group were a third party to the hotel. So nothing was done. Which really left a poor taste in our mouth. Overall average hotel, lovely staff, great location but would try somewhere else in the future.
