What You'll Love...

Your Adventure – Need ideas? Here’s our proposed itinerary

Day 1:

Board your beautiful private sailing catamaran at the 5 Gold Anchor "Coral Sea Marina", staying docked at the marina with access to the Ocean Club private ensuite facilities. For dinner we recommend you choose local Airlie Beach dining options or get adventurous and dine onboard, testing your skills in the galley.

Day 2:

At 9am, you’ll undergo a full briefing on navigation, mooring, anchoring, boat handling and more, so that you are completely comfortable to sail the stunning Whitsundays. Then, set sail for the rock-walled mooring grounds of Caves Cove on Hook Island. Spectacular sunsets are a specialty here, along with spotting dugong, turtle or whales when in season. Tonight, cook up a storm and dine under the stars before the water gently rocks you to sleep.

Day 3:

After breakfast, hop off the boat for a relaxing morning snorkel. Look for tropical reef fish and magnificent underwater art installations at Langford Reef and Blue Pearl Bay on Hayman Island. Enjoy lunch off a mooring at Bali Hai, hand feeding Bat Fish with the marine fish food provided to you. End the magical day at Manta Ray Bay with an afternoon snorkel, seeking out the magnificent Maori Wrasse and more beautiful underwater public art. Sleep anchored at Manta Ray Bay or Butterfly Bay.

Day 4:

Today, make Dumbbell Island or the southern coral sand beach of Esk Island your location for lunch. Tide dependent, head to Tongue Bay on Whitsunday Island and pick up a mooring, before making a landing in your tender to tackle the extraordinary Hill Inlet lookouts— three elevated platform lookouts that give spectacular views of Whitehaven Beach and the inspiring Hill Inlet.

As the crowds disperse on ferries back to the mainland, drop anchor at the spectacular Whitehaven Beach—an unforgettable experience as for most, this can never happen. Enjoy the peaceful night sky, wining and dining aboard your catamaran as the Southern Sky comes to life and the silica sands of this beautiful beach take on their evening glow.

Day 5:

A spritely run through Solway Passage sees you greeted by the only island named by Captain Cook, Pentecost Island, as you make your way to Hamilton Island. Hire a golf buggy—the island’s main mode of transport—or stretch those legs for an island walk that’ll have you passing plenty of dining options.

Day 6:

Leave Hamilton Island and set course for the micro rainforest shoreline of Palm Bay, Long Island. Step ashore beyond the beach lined huts and the sunset bars to the warm welcome of Palm Bay. Swim in the resort pool or lounge with your favourite cocktail in the afternoon sun. We recommend going ashore and cooking at the resort this evening, enjoying the ambience of one of the sweetest locations you will ever find.

Day 7:

Begin your morning with a walk on Long Island, keeping an eye out for Tawny Frog Mouth Owls, Curlew, Kookaburra, Bush Turkeys and out to sea; turtles, dolphins and whales. Set sail to Goat Island or Sunlovers Bay on Daydream Island for a leisurely lunch aboard the catamaran. Head back to Coral Sea Marina at 3pm for refuelling and debriefing. Disembarking from your adventure at 5pm.

The Upgrade – Enjoy the luxury of your own skipper and much more

Sit back and let Josh do the work for you. Josh is not only your skipper for this immersive experience, he is a marine scientist, a rescue diver and a Great Barrier Reef Master Reef Guide. He has experience with worldwide coral restoration and will be taking you on an expertly-crafted itinerary that has been three years in the making.

With the aid of First Nation hosts, you will also visit a Ngaro cultural site – walking an interpretive track to a sacred site that still boasts remnants of Ngaro ancient rock artwork.

When Should You Go?

Schedule your sailing adventure around the time of the year that suits you. As a result, magnificent whale sightings are extremely common. Winter in the Whitsundays is still wonderfully warm.

Environment Management Charge: a fee of AU$30 per person, per trip applies and covers all moorings (excluding Palm Bay Long Island and Daydream Island). This can be paid online via the Portland Roads website or at time of boarding.
