Part of the Aoraki Mackenzie International Dark Sky Reserve –** one of only eight dark sky reserves in the world **– light pollution is strictly controlled in the area, meaning it’s one of the best places in the world to partake in stargazing.
The spectacular Aoraki, Mount Cook and **Lake Pukaki **were chosen by Sir Peter Jackson to feature as the ‘Lake-Town’ is his movie The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. Visitors can relive the magic with Lord of the Rings tours.
