Following breakfast, venture to the tip of the Yorke Peninsula and take in the beautiful white-sand beaches, rolling turquoise surf and dramatic heath-clad cliffs of Dhilba Guuranda-Innes National Park. Renowned as one of Australia’s most treacherous coastlines, this breathtaking region offers some of the most spectacular scenery in the country.
After lunch, enjoy a fantastic wildlife experience on a scenic cruise across Pondalowie Bay. Keep your eyes peeled for white-bellied sea eagles, eastern osprey and pods of wild dolphins bouncing through the waters — Pondalowie Bay is one of the top spots in South Australia to spot these beautiful creatures. After disembarking, drive through fields of barley to the Watsacowie Brewing Company, where you’ll be treated to a paddle of their finest beers. Not a fan of beer? Don’t fear, there are other drinks on the menu.
Return to Wallaroo, where you can enjoy free time to explore this quaint town at leisure; the multimillion-dollar Copper Cove Marina is well worth a look.
Find yourself in awe of the striking landscapes as you depart the Yorke Peninsula and venture deep into South Australia’s most incredible outback wilderness — the Southern Flinders Ranges. Stretch your legs on a scenic walk through Warren Gorge then enjoy a picnic under the shade of the blue gums.
Afterwards, you’ll be whisked to Rawnsley Park Station, an 800-million-year-old natural amphitheatre which is ultimately the centrepiece of Ikara-Flinders Ranges National Park. Freshen up before taking the short drive to Wilpena Pound for a Welcome to Country performed in the language of the Adnyamathanha people. Enjoy Aboriginal songs and traditional stories as you are welcomed into the Flinders Ranges by the Traditional Owners of this beautiful land. Following this memorable experience, enjoy a delicious dinner before retiring for the evening.
Connect with nature this morning as you embark on a two-hour hike to Wangara Lookout in the otherworldy Wilpena Pound. Walk to the floor of Wilpena Pound itself, stopping off at Hills Homestead en route to gain a fascinating insight into the challenging life of 19th-century farmers. Meander across Wilpena’s magnificent ancient formations — the massive amphitheatre of mountains, a traditional meeting place for the Adnyamathanha people, is one of Australia’s most spectacular outback sites. This walk is a beautiful opportunity to witness South Australia’s incredible wildlife in its natural habitat. Don’t miss the chance to see an incredible formation of the myriad birdlife from above with an optional scenic flight this afternoon over its wide expanse, gazing down at the clear outline it imposes on the surrounding landscape.
This afternoon, return to the comforts of Rawnsley Park Station and embrace your final day in this breathtaking location. Perhaps relax by the pool or stretch your legs on a picturesque walk. Watch the sunset bathe the mighty ranges in a tangerine glow before toasting your adventure with one final dinner.
Note: In the event of extremely hot weather, the hike will be replaced with a 4WD tour of the area, subject to weather conditions.
Optional Scenic Flight (fixed-wing aircraft): from A$196 per person. Departs from Wilpena Pound.
Take a moment to inhale the fresh outback air while listening to the unique sounds of the Australian bush before beginning the relaxing journey back to Adelaide along the eastern edge of the Flinders Ranges. Enjoy rolling vistas of soaring river red gums and lush expanses of rugged beauty, followed by lunch and a tasting in the world-famous Clare Valley wine region.
Later this afternoon, arrive in Adelaide, where you’ll be dropped off at your central accommodation. If you are flying out of Adelaide Airport, it is recommended that you do not book your flights prior to 8pm.
