Neatly nestled between Nelson and Christchurch, Maruia River Retreat is an extensive natural estate that enjoys a secluded location surrounded by the Maruia River, native beech forest and rugged mountain ranges. The retreat is approximately a two-hour drive from Nelson Airport (NSN) or a three-hour drive from Christchurch International Airport (CHC). Airport transfers are not included in your package, please plan accordingly.

  • Breakfast is served between 9.15am and 11am at the Dining Lounge of the Main Lodge.
  • Nightly three-course dinner is served at 7pm at the Dining Lounge of the Main Lodge.
  • Nightly drink is served from 6pm (drink orders begin at 2pm) at the Bar and Lounge of the Main Lodge, with a choice of craft beer, wine or Little Biddy gin and tonic.
  • The times of the two-hour private infrared chroma-therapy and Finnish dry sauna session, and the two-hour private forest hot tub experience will be confirmed with guests once they provide their arrival time.
  • Advance bookings for yoga are essential and only available Friday through Sunday. Please contact the hotel for more information.
  • Guided forest walk is weather-dependent and requires advance bookings.
  • The Maruia River Retreat Luxe-Care-Kit includes either a homemade beeswax candle or Maruia homemade honey.
  • Late checkout at 12pm is subject to availability.
  • Wi-Fi is available in the Main Lodge and Wellness Centre only.
  • The property is closed on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. It also closes for winter. The retreat is open until 23 June 2025 and reopens September 2025 to June 2026. Please contact the hotel for exact dates every year.
